About Yalmay
Yalmay is an Honorary University Fellow, here with the Office of Pro Vice Chancellor - Indigenous Leadership, CDU.
Yalmay is a Yolngu Rirratjingu woman from Yirrkala. Yalmay hold a Batchelor of Education - Teaching & Learning with CDU as well as a Diploma in Teaching through Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education.
In 2005 she was awarded ‘Teacher of Excellence (Remote Community)’ by Department of Education, and was then appointed Principal of Yirrkala School for a timein 2007. She is a Teacher Linguist, and has a long history as an educationalist, and is a strong advocate of the bilingual “Two Way Learning” philosophy and very passionate about education.
In 2013 she was selected as one of four finalists for the 2013 Human Rights medal, by the Australian Human Rights Commission, and last year delivered a powerful keynote speech at the inaugural National Indigenous Human Rights Awards.
Yalmay graduated from a Batchelor of Education - Teaching & Learning at CDU.
