Exploring Yuendumu

Located 290km NW from Alice Springs along the Tanami Highway, the community of Yuendumu has a population of over 750 people.

WCE is collaborating with Yuendumu’s Jaru Learning Centre which engages with residents and provides computer access and informal and formal education opportunities for adult learners. The Centre also offers accredited training in land management, children’s services, education and business skills, art and craft, and media.

Yuendumu has a strong arts community and in 1985, the Warlukurlangu Artists Association was founded and notable artists include Kumanjayi Nelson Napaljarri, Norah Nelson Napaljarri, Sheila Brown Napaljarri, and Judy Watson Napangardi.

WCE is also working with Yuendumu based PAW Media, formerly Warlpiri Media, which has been operating for over 15 years and gained national recognition for producing 'Bush Mechanics', and also 'Aboriginal Rules' which explored the social meaning of football in remote communities.
